What the weather is like

Days are often sunny and calm. Warm spells are common early in the month. Daylight saving time ends on the first Sunday of November, so late October evenings get dark earlier.
These averages come from the downtown station. Neighborhoods near Ocean Beach are often cooler and grayer, and the Mission and SoMa are often warmer. In October the station records about 2 days with measurable rain in an average year.
What to pack
Bring light layers, a jacket for the evening and sunglasses. A small umbrella is useful toward the end of the month. Our San Francisco packing list covers the basics for every season.
