Who we are
San Francisco Updates is an independent local guide published at sanfranciscoupdates.com. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean San Francisco Updates. You can reach us at hello@sanfranciscoupdates.com.
What we collect
We collect as little as we can. You can read the whole site without creating an account or giving us any personal details.
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it and whatever you put in the message. We use this only to read and answer you.
When you leave a comment
If comments are open on a post and you leave one, we store the name, email address and website you enter, the comment itself, your IP address and your browser user agent. These help us spot spam. An anonymized string made from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture there. Your email address is never shown publicly.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting server keeps standard logs, such as IP addresses, browser type, the pages requested and the time of each request. These are used for security and to keep the site running.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. WordPress may set a few cookies of its own. If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email and website in a cookie so you don’t have to type them again. Logged-in site editors also get login cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Services we rely on
A few outside services help run the site. Each has its own privacy policy.
- Hostinger hosts the website and its server logs.
- Google Fonts supplies some of the typefaces. To load them, your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.
- Gravatar may show profile pictures next to comments, as described above.
- WordPress, along with plugins such as Elementor, Yoast SEO and LiteSpeed Cache, runs on our own server to build pages, handle search settings and speed up loading.
How we use information
We use the information above to answer your messages, publish and moderate comments, keep the site secure and fix problems. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
How long we keep it
We keep emails for as long as we need them to deal with your message, and then delete them when they are no longer useful. Approved comments stay on the site until they are removed. Server logs are kept by our host for a limited time and then deleted on a rolling basis.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, such as an email you sent or a comment you left. Email hello@sanfranciscoupdates.com and we will reply within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live, including California, you may have further rights under local privacy laws, and we will honor them where they apply.
Children
This site is a general travel and local guide and is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us personal details, please contact us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site or the services we use change. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated.
