Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so the weekend of October 30 to November 1, 2026 is a busy one in San Francisco. The Castro and Bernal Heights close streets for Halloween night, runners cross the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday morning, and Día de los Muertos events start in the Mission ahead of the procession on Monday, November 2. The dated events are below, with the street closures and Muni changes that come with them.

Saturday, October 31: Halloween

SFMTA lists a Halloween celebration on 18th Street in the Castro on Saturday night. The street will be closed to traffic, and the 33 Ashbury/18th Street bus will be rerouted around it. In Bernal Heights, streets around Cortland Avenue close to cars on Halloween evening for trick-or-treaters, and the 24 Divisadero is rerouted.
Earlier in the day, the Further Send Off is a free community event in the Haight. A band leads a truck carrying the Further bus east along Haight Street from Stanyan Street toward the Haight Street Art Center near Laguna Street, before the bus goes into storage for restoration. Haight Street closes briefly, and the 7 and 37 routes have minor reroutes.
The River of Life Halloween block party runs from noon to 10pm on Sunnydale Avenue in Visitacion Valley.
For a daytime outing, the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market runs from 8am to 2pm, and the de Young and the Legion of Honor are free on Saturdays for Bay Area residents.

If you are not running, expect closures around Aquatic Park and Ghirardelli Square and along Marina Boulevard on Sunday morning. Muni reroutes the 19, 28, 30 and 49 from 5am, and the 28 skips its Golden Gate Bridge parking lot stop until noon. Plan a bridge walk for Sunday afternoon instead. Details are on SFMTA’s race page.
